Why Should You Consider Rivendell College?
As parents, you are probably concerned about the frightening statistics you've heard. Nine of ten Christian high school students who go on for a college degree will attend a public institution. Five of ten will lose their faith before the end of their freshman year, and seven of ten will walk away from their faith before they graduate.
So, you think of sending your student to a private Christian college, hoping that it will protect the faith-investment you’ve made for eighteen years as he or she transitions into adulthood. But there is a potential downside to that decision as well.
Christian colleges often pursue the integration of faith and learning by cocooning their student body away from mainstream academia. Their campus is miles from any secular school. Exposure to non-Christian viewpoints typically consists of straw-man arguments with no rebuttal from anyone who really believes and advocates those ideas. Students never interact with the kind of people they will work with and live next door to for the rest of their lives.
That doesn't seem like the best way to prepare for the realities of life, does it?
At Rivendell College students get the best of two worlds, and an experience that is far truer to real life. We offer scholarly Christian perspectives on a campus that is strategically located next to a major research institution. Our residential student communities are housed in former fraternities and sororities within the larger student community in a university town. We encourage our students to take some of their coursework at the University of Colorado, and we invite students from CU to take classes through our Guest Student Program (University+). Rivendell students are encouraged to interact with university campus life by participating in Christian campus ministries, using public facilities such as Norlin Library and the University Memorial Student Center, attending public lectures and conferences, and enjoying university athletic, music, and theater events open to the public.
We believe that this strategic location, with its real-life context and world-engaging educational experience, makes Rivendell a wonderfully unique liberal arts college.
